Why do we test? We want quality in our delivered software applications; with testing we find defects, which can be solved. But as Boehm already told us in 1979, solving defects later in the software development lifecycle is expensive; and testing is still mostly done at the end of this lifecycle. Cleaning up what Murphy left behind. But 50-70% of the defects are attributed to requirements and design flaws; defects that could have been found in those phases. Defects can even be found earlier than that. But how? How can we approach the quality through the whole lifecycle?
